Dawn Cook and Stephanie Johnson are the first two female black pilots to fly together.
They celebrated the milestone with a little fistbump in the cockpit.
First Officer Cook reached out to her colleague and fellow pilot Stephanie Johnson after realising she would be flying out of Detroit.
The pair then organised the historic flight and beamed with pride as they took selfies during the incredible achievement.
Johnson is also Delta’s first ever female African-American captain and was the first ever female African-American pilot for Northwest Airlines in 1997.
During an interview for the airline’s ‘Very Own Heroes’ feature during Black History Month, Johnson said: ‘There were no pilots in my life growing up, and I think I’m the first person in my family to graduate from college.
‘But for as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with airplanes and would think, “What a great thing it would be to know how to fly.”’
She added: ‘I feel a great sense of responsibility to be a positive role model.
‘There are so few women in this profession and too many women who still don’t think of it as a career option.’
